So, Davey, tell us about yourself and why you joined the Moda team.
I was born and raised in Birmingham but moved out to the United States in 2006, settling in California. It was there that I first discovered resort-style living and buildings with amenities that made it feel like you were checking into a hotel. I thought it was an amazing concept so wanted to get involved and it was there that I built my career.
Over time, I began to realise that although some of the resort-like developments in the US were incredible, they didn’t always feel like home. This is how I feel that Moda is different. I moved back to the UK after over 15 years, to make sure that I could spend time with family. It wasn’t long before I stumbled across Moda and realised that my personal values align very much with their desire to build homes and communities, so taking the job as General Manager of Loudon’s Yard was a no-brainer.
How is Loudon’s Yard different to other Moda neighbourhoods?
Loudon’s Yard really is the next generation for Moda. All the other neighbourhoods are incredible and beautifully designed but are usually high-rise buildings, right in the heart of the city centre. We have lots of outdoor, green space and are based in the leafy suburb of Edgbaston, we have the peace and quiet but are still within minutes of the city centre. Loudon’s Yard has been designed with that in mind and the amenities really blend with our location and the make-up of the area. Community really is at our heart, even our name ties us into the history of the area.
We’re keen to make sure that we integrate seamlessly within the Edgbaston community. We can bring their services to our residents and make sure we’re using local suppliers and producers, but we can also encourage our residents to explore the area and hopefully help generate business for our neighbours. We want it to be a seamless relationship.
Tell us three things you love about Edgbaston
What’s not to love?! The first thing has to be the location. We’ve got the convenience of being close to Birmingham, and you can just hop on a tram and be there in minutes, but you don’t feel like you’re living in the hustle and bustle. We’re lucky to have all this green space, it’s very peaceful.
The second thing I love is that there is a real sense of community and lots going on socially, you really feel like you’re a part of something. Edgbaston is a bit of a bubble, but in a nice way.
Finally, I’m biased but in my opinion all of the best restaurants are in Edgbaston!
What about three things you love about Moda, Loudon’s Yard?
The first thing has to be the team. They’re the face of everything and they really bring the whole offer together. Another thing is the green space, we have lots of our own outdoor space and have so many beautiful walking tracks, parks, and gardens on our doorstep, but you can still be at New Street.
Last but definitely not least, it has to be the apartments themselves, they’re absolutely stunning. The design, décor and furniture are really high-end, they’re so beautiful.
How is Loudon’s Yard supporting the local community?
Community really is at our heart, even our name ties us into the history of the area.
The neighbourhood has already helped the community in terms of skills and training – during construction more than 50 apprentices worked on the project with our contractor Winvic and their suppliers. It’s great to know we’re opening our doors having already made a difference.
Longer term, we’re keen to make sure that we integrate seamlessly within the Edgbaston community. We can bring their services to our residents and make sure we’re using local suppliers and producers, but we can also encourage our residents to explore the area and hopefully help generate business for our neighbours. We want it to be a seamless relationship.
How are you planning on making your new residents feel at home?
The team and I will be visible, available and ready to give the residents whatever they need to settle in and feel at home. Whether that’s saying hello every day and knowing them by name or standing back and giving them some space to live their own Moda lives. For me the definition of the Moda life is the convenience and the great service.
