The City of a Thousand Trades - a place built by makers and doers. For centuries, Birmingham has been a city defined by craft, where skills were honed in workshops, ideas were turned into industry, and generations of people shaped not just what was made here, but what the city became.
That legacy is still felt today, nowhere more so than in the Jewellery Quarter. It lives on in the workshops tucked behind iron gates, in the independent businesses that line the cobbled streets, and in the quiet confidence of a place that knows exactly what it is.

Makers Place is a new rental community in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, shaped by that same spirit. Not simply a building in the neighbourhood, but one that takes its cues from it - from the people, the process and the sense of making that defines this corner of the city.
So, when we thought about what life here should feel like, we didn't start with amenities or interiors. We started with a question: who are the people carrying that maker spirit forward today?
The answer became our Local Makers programme. Five individuals, each with deep roots in the Quarter, all bringing something distinctly their own. A poet, a chef, a bartender and artist, a wine sommelier and a nail artist. Different disciplines, different perspectives, but all united by a shared commitment to their craft.
They're not here to simply add character - they help create it. Their work will shape the rhythm of everyday life at Makers Place, from the music in shared spaces to the experiences that bring residents together.
Our poet has written an original piece inspired by the neighbourhood. The local chef will host ramen masterclasses in the private dining room. The sommelier is curating a resident wine programme, with monthly selections and tastings. The bartender and artist will shape the building's soundtrack, while a celebrated nail artist will host pop-ups for those looking for something a little different midweek.
None of this has been retrofitted. It's grown out of conversations with people who already live and work here - which is exactly why it feels true to the Jewellery Quarter, rather than a version of it.

Residents move in from summer 2026. We'll be introducing each maker in the coming weeks - their stories, their craft, and what they'll bring to life at Makers Place. If you're thinking about making it your home, you can reserve your apartment now.
