A Local’s Guide to Coffee in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter

29 / 05 / 2026

Finding your regular coffee spot is often the first sign you’ve properly settled into a neighbourhood.

In the Jewellery Quarter, independent cafés are part of everyday life - takeaway coffees before canal walks, slow Sunday mornings in St Paul's Square and the places that quickly start remembering your order.

From cosy corners to speciality coffee, here are a few of our favourite spots near Makers Place.

For slow mornings and fresh pastries

Bakehouse has become a favourite in the Jewellery Quarter for good reason.

Known for its pastries, coffee and relaxed atmosphere, it’s the sort of place where you stop in for a quick takeaway and end up staying longer than planned. One of several Bakehouse locations across Birmingham including Sutton Coldfield, Wylde Green and Digbeth - it’s also a reminder of how well connected life at Makers Place really is.

Whether you’re exploring more of the city or keeping things local in the Quarter, everything feels within easy reach.

For grabbing a coffee between meetings

Sitting right across the road from Makers Place, Besa Coffee is perfectly placed for those working-from-home coffee runs that quickly become part of your daily routine.

Known for its speciality coffee and laid-back feel, it’s an easy spot to nip over to between meetings, catch up with friends or grab an iced latte before heading out into the Quarter. And honestly, the iced latte alone is worth the walk across the road.

Inside, a locally illustrated map of the Jewellery Quarter stretches across the walls, a small detail that reflects the neighbourhood spirit behind the space and makes it feel unmistakably rooted in the JQ.

A Jewellery Quarter favourite

Ask around for favourite coffee spots in the area and Saint Kitchen will come up again and again.

Equal parts neighbourhood coffee spot and weekend meeting point, it’s somewhere people naturally drift back to throughout the week - whether that’s a quick weekday stop, a post-gym coffee or a slow Sunday morning spent outside in St Paul's Square.

That sense of familiarity is what makes the Jewellery Quarter feel less like somewhere you simply live, and more like somewhere you belong.

For a taste of Brazilian culture in the Quarter

More than just a coffee spot, Viela brings a different side of the Jewellery Quarter’s creative community to life.

Founded by Joyce and Mascote, who brought Capoeira to Birmingham from Brazil, Viela blends authentic Brazilian street food with the culture and energy that inspired it.

From fresh pastries and strong coffee to traditional Brazilian dishes made from scratch, everything feels warm, welcoming and full of character. At the back of the space, Capoeira classes continue to run from the studio, adding to the sense that this is more than somewhere to stop for lunch or coffee.

It’s places like Viela that give the Jewellery Quarter its layered personality. Independent, creative and shaped by the people behind them.

Living the Jewellery Quarter life

One of the best things about living in the Jewellery Quarter is that the city starts to feel local surprisingly quickly.

The coffee spots that know your order. The canal route you walk without thinking. The places you recommend when friends visit. Over time, they become part of your everyday routine.

At Makers Place, that connection to the neighbourhood is built into the experience of living here. Crafted apartments, shared spaces designed for gathering and a location surrounded by independent businesses, cafés and creative spaces that give the Quarter its unmistakable character.

Because the best thing about coffee in the Jewellery Quarter isn’t just the coffee.

It’s the feeling of finding your place in the neighbourhood.
